What are The List of Auto Parts?

This is a list of automotive parts, mostly for vehicles using internal combustion engines which are manufactured components of automobiles:

The car body and the main part

Body components, including trim

Car-Body-Parts-Diagrams
  • Bonnet/hood: A car hood, also referred to as a bonnet in some countries, is the hinged cover that rests over the engine bay of a front-engine vehicle.
  • Bumper: A bumper is a structure attached to or integrated with the front and rear ends of a motor vehicle, to absorb impact in a minor collision, ideally minimizing repair costs. Stiff metal bumpers appeared on automobiles as early as 1904 that had a mainly ornamental function.
  • Cowl screen: The “cowl” is the space between the hood of a car and the windshield. It’s the space where your vehicle’s windshield wipers are located.
  • Decklid: The trunk lid (in the U.S. automotive industry sometimes also called decklid or deck lid) is the cover that allows access to the main storage or luggage compartment. Hinges allow the lid to be raised. Devices such as a manually positioned prop rod can keep the panel up in the open position.
  • Fascia rear and support: Rear bumper fascias are integral to a car’s silhouette and also serve a vital safety function, protecting the rear of the car during a collision.
  • Fender (wing or mudguar): A car tire fender is a plastic, metal, or rubber panel that bends over the wheel on the side of the car, extending from the front bumper to the car door. The main function of car fenders is to protect tires and braking systems from mud or other impurities so that they are safer and more efficient.
  • Front clip: The complete replacement of the front bodywork back to the cowl or A-pillar.
  • Front fascia and header panel: Front bumper fascias are typically large panels that are designed to extend across the front of a vehicle, cover the shock absorbing components, improve vehicle aerodynamics, and provide an attractive appearance.
  • Grille (also called grill): It may also be referred to as “latticework”, “nose panel”, and “radiator grille”. There may be a “lower grille” at the base of your vehicle’s front (either as one long piece of mesh or as several sections).
  • Pillar and hard trim: These pillars are named “A,” “B,” “C,” and “D.” These pillars refer to the front, center, and rear structures. The “A” pillar holds the windshield in place, while the “B” pillar serves as the center structure. The “C” pillar sits on either side of a sedan’s rear window. For station wagons, minivans, and SUVs, the “D” pillar replaces the “C” pillar as the rear support.
  • Quarter panel: A quarter panel (British English: rear wing) is the body panel (exterior surface) of an automobile between a rear door (or only door on each side for two-door models) and the trunk (boot) and typically wraps around the wheel well.
  • Radiator core support: A radiator support is a steel, plastic, or aluminum frame that holds the radiator and the radiator cover in place.
  • Rocker: Rocker panels, also known as rockers, are structural reinforcements that prevent the middle portion of your vehicle’s body from collapsing.
  • Roof rack: A roof rack provides efficiency in packing and ensures that your vehicle’s interior remains clutter-free, allowing for increased comfort during the journey. Additionally, it enables you to safely transport bulky items that otherwise would not fit in the car, such as kayaks, bikes, and surfboards.
  • Spoiler: A vehicle with less wind resistance uses less fuel at high speeds. Spoilers come in many shapes and sizes and can be installed on the vehicle to ensure driving efficiency. Whenever someone mentions the word “spoiler,” you instantly think of wing-type spoilers attached to a car’s trunk lid.
  • Rims: It is the outer edge of the wheel which holds the tire. It is the outer circular design and surrounds the decorative area of the wheel’s hub and spokes. The tire’s edges lay against the rim, specifically the tire bead.
  • Hubcap: A hubcap attached directly to the wheel is used to either hide an ordinary or unsightly wheel or add aerodynamics to a vehicle.
  • Tire/Tyre: A tire or tyre is a ring-shaped component that surrounds a wheel’s rim to transfer a vehicle’s load from the axle through the wheel to the ground and to provide traction on the surface over which the wheel travels.
  • Trim package: Car trim types or levels refer to different pre-packaged groups of features for a particular car. The base model is the cheapest, standard offering that includes the least amount of features. Higher trim levels usually cost more and include additional features, technology, and performance enhancements.
  • Trunk/boot/hatch: A car trunk is an enclosed lockable storage area in a sedan, coupe, or convertible separate from the passenger cabin.
  • Valance: When it comes to the automotive world, valance panels are trim pieces under bumpers that direct airflow; they could also be filler body panels.
  • Welded assembly: This process involves joining metal parts through welding techniques, ensuring the structural integrity and safety of the automobile.

Door Parts

  • Anti-intrusion bar: An anti-intrusion bar or beam is a passive safety device, installed in most cars and other ground vehicles, which must protect passengers from side impacts.
  • Outer door handle/Inner door handle: Car door handles provide a way to enter and exit the cabin of the car. They also offer security by preventing authorized access.
  • Window motor:  The window motor is a relatively simple component that provides power to a series of gears, which are responsible for pushing the window glass up or pulling it down.
  • Door control module: The door control module (DCM), also called a door control unit (DCU), is a type of automotive electronic that provides intelligent control for vehicle doors, and their peripheral electric parts and components, that enable features such as power windows, anti-pinch technology, central door locking, rearview mirror adjustment, door lighting and more.
  • Door Seal: Car weather stripping is known by many names such as car door seals, automotive seals or car window seals and refers to the rubber seal found around car doors and windows. These seals are responsible for keeping warmth in and keeping the rain, dust, dirt and bugs out when your car door is shut.
  • Door water-shield: The water shield helps prevent water and dirt from getting inside the interior of the vehicle through access panels in the doors. Water shields are typically made from polyethylene flexible plastic sheets held in place with an adhesive.
  • Hinge: Door hinges are the actual moving part on your vehicle’s door, and they connect it to the body.
  • Door latch: A car door latch is a device that holds the weight of the doors to open and close. You can find it at the top of a door and use it to lock or unlock your car. The latch is usually made from plastic, but some high-end vehicles might have them in metal instead.
  • Door lock and power door locks: Power door locks (also known as electric door locks or central locking) allow the driver or front passenger to simultaneously lock or unlock all the doors of an automobile or truck, by pressing a button or flipping a switch.
  • Central-locking: The central locking system makes it possible to lock or unlock all of a vehicle’s doors, the liftgate or the luggage compartment lid simultaneously.
  • Fuel tank (or fuel filler) door: Fuel doors are an imperative component that ensures your fuel system functions properly and your gas tank is protected.

Windows Parts

  • Glass: Vehicle glass is glass used to provide light access to motor vehicles. It includes windscreens, side and rear windows, and glass panel roofs.
  • Sunroof: A sunroof is typically a solid body-colored panel that can manually tilt up or be removed. A sunroof is an opaque metal panel, and you can’t see through it.
  • Sunroof Rail: Within the sunroof mechanism, slide rails are used to guide the glass panel and open and close the car sunroof. It requires a robust, high-precision solution for the smooth operation of the roof throughout the lifetime of the vehicle.
  • Sunroof Glass: A sunroof is a glass or metal panel that’s installed in the roof of a car, truck, or SUV that slides open or pops up to allow light and air into the interior cabin.
  • Window motor: The window motor is a relatively simple component that provides power to a series of gears, which are responsible for pushing the window glass up or pulling it down.
  • Window regulator: The window regulator is the mechanical assembly that moves a window up and down when power is supplied to an electric motor or, with manual windows, the window crank is turned. Window regulators are mounted inside the door panel, out of sight and out of mind until they don’t work.
  • Windshield (also called windscreen): A windscreen is a solid and transparent barrier that is placed at the front of a vehicle.
  • Window seal: Automotive weather stripping is the rubber material that forms a seal around your vehicle’s doors, windows, trunk lid, windshield, and other areas, such as the roof rails.

Low Voltage/Auxiliary Electrical system and electronics

Audio/video device parts

  • Antenna assembly: The primary role of a car antenna is to catch radio signals to allow you to listen to the radio while you’re driving.
  • Radio and media player: A car’s audio system entertains the occupants inside with music, sound or noise. This audio source can come from various media, such as radio-waves, compact disc, cassette, auxiliary, Bluetooth, FM modulator, WiFi, NFC or satellite radio.
  • Speaker: Car speakers convert power into sound waves. Different car speakers work better with certain power sources.
  • Subwoofer: Subwoofers are speakers dedicated to reproducing low frequencies.

Cameras parts

  • Backup camera: A backup camera is a video camera that is produced specifically for the purpose of being attached to the rear of a vehicle to aid in reversing and to reduce the rear blind spot.
  • Dashcam: A dashboard camera or simply dashcam, also known as car digital video recorder, driving recorder, or event data recorder (EDR), is an onboard camera that continuously records the view through a vehicle’s front windscreen and sometimes rear or other windows.

Low-voltage electrical supply system parts

  • Alternator: An alternator is a type of electric generator used in modern automobiles to charge the battery and to power the electrical system when its engine is running.
  • Voltage regulator: A voltage regulator is a system designed to automatically maintain a constant voltage.
  • Battery: An automotive battery, or car battery, is a rechargeable battery that is used to start a motor vehicle. Its main purpose is to provide an electric current to the electric-powered starting motor, which in turn starts the chemically-powered internal combustion engine that actually propels the vehicle.

Gauges and Meters Parts

  • Ammeter: An ammeter is an instrument used to measure the current in a circuit.
  • Clinometer: An inclinometer or clinometer is an instrument used for measuring angles of slope, elevation, or depression of an object with respect to gravity’s direction.
  • Dynamometer: A dynamometer or “dyno” for short, is a device for simultaneously measuring the torque and rotational speed (RPM) of an engine, motor or other rotating prime mover so that its instantaneous power may be calculated, and usually displayed by the dynamometer itself as kW or bhp.
  • Fuel gauge: A fuel gauge is an instrument used to indicate the amount of fuel in a fuel tank.
  • Manometer: Manometer is a very simple and extremely useful device, which is mainly used to evaluate the efficiency of the gas system.
  • Hydrometer: Hydrometer test is specifically used to measure the specific gravity of the diluted sulfuric acid (electrolyte) in the battery of the vehicles.

  • Temperature gauge: The temperature gauge, most often located on your dashboard in your vehicle, is intended to show the temperature of your engine’s coolant.
  • Tire pressure gauge: A tire-pressure gauge, or tyre-pressure gauge, is a pressure gauge used to measure the pressure of tires on a vehicle.
  • Vacuum gauge: A vacuum gauge shows the difference between outside atmospheric pressure and the amount of vacuum present in the intake manifold.
  • Voltmeter: Voltmeters can measure the voltage of a car battery, which can give you a good indication of how much energy is in the battery- kind of like a gas gauge on a car.
  • Oil pressure gauge: An oil pressure gauge measures the oil pressure in your engine.

Parts of Ignition System

  • Sparking cable: Spark plug wires (also called high tension leads) are electrical cables used by older internal combustion engines to transmit high-voltage electricity from the distributor to the spark plugs.
  • Distributor: A car distributor is a component of the ignition system that distributes high voltage electrical power to each cylinder’s spark plug at the correct time to power the engine.
  • Distributor Cap: The ignition (or distributor) cap is where ignition wires that run to the spark plugs receive high-voltage current from the ignition coil.
  • Electronic timing controller: Electronic timing controllers allow you to advance or retard the spark curve—handy for building boost or launching hard off the line.
  • Ignition box: An Ignition Box is a simple aftermarket upgrade that can dramatically improve the performance of your engine by producing a much larger and more powerful spark.
  • Ignition coil: An ignition coil, also known as a spark coil, is an induction coil in your car’s ignition system which transforms the battery’s low voltage into thousands of volts which are needed to create an electric spark in the spark plugs to ignite the fuel.
  • Ignition Coil Connector: The ignition coil requires consistent low voltage delivery to provide amplified power. The coil connector is a device that links this system together.
  • Ignition magneto: An ignition magneto (also called a high-tension magneto) is an older type of ignition system used in spark-ignition engines (such as petrol engines). It uses a magneto and a transformer to make pulses of high voltage for the spark plugs.
  • Spark plug: Your spark plugs are what supply the spark that ignites the air/fuel mixture, creating the explosion which makes your engine produce power.
  • Glow Plug: A glow plug is a heating element that heats incoming fuel and air to encourage efficient fuel combustion in a diesel engine.

Lighting and signaling system parts

  • Engine bay lighting: Pop the hood and transform the look of your engine by illuminating and highlighting features such as the engine block, pistons, alternator, exhaust manifold and more. This lighting kit is great for displaying your vehicle at car shows and is also extremely beneficial for increased visibility if you need to look at your engine at night.
  • Fog light: Fog lights are designed to aid visibility when bad weather conditions reduce your ability to see the road ahead.
  • Spotlight: ‘Spotlight’ is a broader term than both ‘fog light’ and ‘driving light’. It can refer to either round driving lights with a narrow beam pattern (as opposed to light bar-style driving lights) or to handheld spotlights.
  • Headlight: A headlamp is a lamp attached to the front of a vehicle to illuminate the road ahead. Headlamps are also often called headlights, but in the most precise usage, headlamp is the term for the device itself and headlight is the term for the beam of light produced and distributed by the device.
  • Interior light and lamp: An interior light is a type of light that is generally used to illuminate the cabin of a vehicle.
  • Side lighting: Sidelights, also known as “Parking Lights” serve as an alternative to your dipped beam headlights. Drivers typically turn their sidelights on when it is dark or cloudy and the natural lighting is low but not dark enough to put their dipped beams on.
  • Brake light, Third or Center Brake light: Brake lights come in two forms – the dashboard brake warning light, which indicates potential issues within the braking system, and brake tail lights that notify other drivers when you’re decelerating or stopping.
  • Tail light: Tail lights are the red lamps on the rear of a vehicle. Their purpose is to ensure you are visible to others. Brake lights illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed and the car slows.
  • Indicator light: Indicator light turns on when there is a fault condition in an area of the vehicle chassis systems such as—the anti-lock (ABS) brake system, the traction control (TCS) system, the electronic suspension system, or the brake hydraulic system.
  • Turn signals: Direction indicator lights or turn signals, informally known as directional signals, directional, blinkers, or indicators, are blinking lights mounted near the left and right front and rear corners of a vehicle, and sometimes on the sides or on the side mirrors of a vehicle.
